UTHealth Houston Harris County Psychiatric Center

Training & Residency Opportunities

New residents 2017Each year, HCPC assists in recruiting approximately 10 - 15 residents and fellows to the Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Program, as well as the Psychology Internship and Practicum Programs, in the Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. And every year there is a growing level of interest in Psychiatry from the UTHealth medical school students, as well as those from outside our school. (All 240 third-year med school students spend three-to-six weeks of their Psychiatry rotation at HCPC, and a high number of these elect to return for electives at HCPC in their fourth year.)

This enthusiasm for a career in Psychiatry reflects the valuable resources offered by HCPC—both the impressive work we do and the professionalism of our staff. Based on interactions with our faculty and staff, students and residents are inspired to commit and contribute to lifelong learning about new ways to improve behavioral healthcare.

The Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences was established in 1971, and its residency program began in 1974. Our faculty provide an environment where a resident can acquire a wide range of experiences. With faculty supervision, residents are encouraged to pursue their own interests and skills with the goal of developing a successful career that is enjoyable and fulfilling.
